This dashboard was supported by the Catalyst Grant Program, an initiative by the Urban Institute and the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative to support local communities in using data and technology to advance racial equity in the criminal legal system.

UI/UX thinking

The interface was designed to communicate complex, sensitive data with clarity and care. Layout and hierarchy were structured to help users compare patterns and trends without unnecessary friction, allowing the data itself to remain the focus.

Color was used intentionally to differentiate categories and highlight contrast, while avoiding visual bias or overstimulation. Accessibility and legibility were key considerations, ensuring that the data could be read accurately across contexts.

Together, these decisions supported a clear and trustworthy experience—helping users engage with the data thoughtfully and with confidence.
